Six Flags Changes Annual Pass System

January 19, 2022, 12:43 PM · Six Flags’ year-round parks have ditched memberships in favor of a new three-tier season pass system.

The new passes – now on sale at Six Flags Magic Mountain and Discovery Kingdom in California as well as Texas and Fiesta Texas parks – come in three tiers: Thrill Seeker Pass, Extreme Pass and Ultimate Pass. Extreme and Ultimate Passes offer no blackout dates and unlimited access to all Six Flags outdoor theme parks, plus in-park discounts and a flexible payment option. The cheapest Thrill Seeker pass is only valid at its original park on all but a few blockout dates, but includes free standard parking.

Thrill Seekers passes cost $114.99 at Magic Mountain and $79.99 at the other three parks. The Extreme Pass costs $179.99 at Magic Mountain and $169.99 elsewhere, while the Ultimate Pass costs $329.99 at Magic Mountain and $299.99 elsewhere. If you’re wondering if you can just buy an Extreme or Ultimate Pass in the Bay Area at Discovery Kingdom and use it in Los Angeles at Magic Mountain to save a few bucks, Six Flags says some pass perks are only good in your original park, where you purchased and activated the pass.

And if you’re wondering what makes Flexible Pay different from legacy subscriptions, the Flexible Pay option is a four installment plan to pay for a season’s subscription, as opposed to the ongoing monthly payments for subscriptions. With Flexible Pay, you pay a deposit on purchase, followed by three monthly installments to pay for the pass.

Six Flags said it would continue the membership program for current members, as long as they made their payments. The Six Flags website continues to offer new member listings at seasonal parks, including Six Flags Great Adventure and Six Flags Great America. Subscriptions start at $6.99 per month, with four tiers offering different benefits.

“We are constantly looking for ways to improve our product offerings with the goal of improving the customer experience,” a Six Flags spokesperson said when asked to comment on the changes. “Based on customer feedback, we are testing a simplified product architecture in select parks that better aligns with our customer-centric goals. Following the test, we will decide on changes to implement company-wide. ‘business.”
