Sotheby’s, in conjunction with Liverpool Football Club (LFC), will hold two non-fungible token sales, or NFTs, of star players and the football team’s manager from March 30 to April 1.

24 one-of-a-kind “legendary” NFTs will be offered, each representing a team member with superpowers. Bidding starts at 100 USD; the highest bidder will be awarded an NFT in both animation and still image form.

Both sales will take place simultaneously on Sotheby’s Metaverse, the auction house’s dedicated NFT marketplace.

In true superhero style, the NFTs will feature star players wearing a cape and posing or wearing a prop to emphasize their personality, Sotheby’s said.

For example, Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino is shown covering one eye, which he always does after scoring a goal. Meanwhile, attacking midfielder Takumi Minamino is pictured wearing a gold headband that reads “YNWA” for You’ll Never Walk Alone, the team’s famous anthem, Sotheby’s said in a press release.

Other players to be featured include James Milner dipping a cookie into a cup of tea; centre-back Virgil van Dijk depicted with clenched fists in the air; and midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain wearing gold headphones with his hands in a rock horns gesture, Sotheby’s said

The second sale will feature limited-edition “Hero” NFTs for a fixed price of $75. These stills feature a player or manager with a combination of traits randomly generated by a computer algorithm similar to other generative art NFTs such as CryptoPunks or Bored Apes. The quantity of the limited-edition “Hero” series will be determined after the three-day sales window closes, Sotheby’s said.

Buyers of the limited-edition NFTs won’t know what they bought until the sale ends on April 2, Sotheby’s said.

A portion of the proceeds from each sale will benefit the LFC Foundation, which supports communities in need in Liverpool and beyond. Those who manage to purchase one of the NFTs can join the LFC Heroes Club fan community, which will offer additional benefits such as virtual rides, competitions and discounts.
